چکیده

We solve for the structure of a hot accretion disc with unsaturated thermal Comptonisation of soft photons and with advection, generalizing the classical model of Shapiro et al. The upper limit on the accretion rate due to advection constrains the luminosity to < ∼ 0.15y 3/5 α 7/5 of the Eddington limit, where y and α are the Compton and viscosity parameters, respectively. The characteristic temperature and Thomson optical depth of the inner flow at accretion rates within an order of magnitude of that upper limit are ∼ 10 K and ∼ 1, respectively. The resulting spectra are then in close agreement with the X-ray and soft γ-ray spectra from black-hole binaries in the hard state and Seyferts. At low accretion rates, bremsstrahlung becomes the dominant radiative process.

On The Robustness of Cool Disc Components in Bright ULXs

In this letter, we comment on the robustness of putative cool (kT ≃ 0.2 keV) accretion disc components in the X-ray spectra of the most luminous (LX ≃ 10 erg/s) ultra-luminous Xray sources (ULXs) in nearby normal galaxies. When compared to stellar-mass black holes, the low disc temperatures observed in some ULXs may imply intermediate-mass black hole primaries. Recent work has claimed that such...

On the X-ray spectra of luminous, inhomogeneous accretion flows

We discuss the expected X-ray spectral and variability properties of black hole accretion discs at high luminosity, under the hypothesis that radiation pressure dominated discs are subject to violent clumping instabilities and, as a result, have a highly inhomogeneous two-phase structure. After deriving the full accretion disc solutions explicitly in terms of the parameters of the model, we stu...

Hot one-temperature accretion flows revisited

The effectiveness of the thermal coupling of ions and electrons in the context of optically thin, hot accretion flows is investigated in a phenomenological approach. In the limit of complete coupling, we focus on the one-temperature accretion flows around black holes. Based on a global analysis, the results are compared with two-temperature accretion flow models and with the observations of bla...

Luminous hot accretion flows: the origin of X-ray emission of Seyfert galaxies and black-hole binaries

We investigate accretion disc models for the X-ray emission of Seyfert-1 galaxies and the hard state of black-hole binaries. We concentrate on two hot accretion disc models: advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF) and recently found luminous hot accretion flow (LHAF). We solve for the global solution of both ADAF and LHAF to obtain the electron temperature, Te, and Thompson optical depth, τ ,...

Accretion Discs around Black Holes: Developement of Theory

Standard accretion disk theory is formulated which is based on the local heat balance. The energy produced by a turbulent viscous heating is supposed to be emitted to the sides of the disc. Sources of turbulence in the accretion disc are connected with nonlinear hydrodynamic instability, convection, and magnetic field. In standard theory there are two branches of solution, optically thick, and ...
